Modern Retro Crochet Collar, Written Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1: Preparing Materials and Starting the Necklace

Begin by cutting a length of SilverSilk Knitted Leather Chain in an approximate desired length for your necklace. You can adjust this later if needed. Working from the yarn skein, start a slip knot on your crochet hook. Try to leave at least a seven-inch tail on the slip knot.

Step 2: Casting onto the SilverSilk Knitted Leather Chain

Holding your Knitted Leather Chain in front of your hook, make sure the yarn from the skein to your hook is passing over the chain. Wrap your yarn under the chain and then wrap a loop around the hook. Pull the loop through the loop on your hook. Tighten it and you should be able to see the first V of a chain stitch formed around the Knitted Leather Chain.

Step 3: Continuing to Cast on to Desired Length

Repeat Step 2 to create a minimum of five stitches cast onto the chain. Five stitches will give you one scallop ruffle. For each additional scallop desired, cast on four additional stitches. Our blue and yellow samples have seven scallops, so a total of 29 stitches were cast onto the chain. You can count these stitches by counting the Vs.

Step 4: Beginning the Scallop Stitch

Turn your work and start making stitches from the other end. Wrap your yarn once around the hook. Insert your hook under the third V.

ProTip: The V your hook is now above the first V. Skip the next one and insert under the V after that. Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull that loop through V. Wrap the yarn over the hook once more and pull through two loops. Wrap the yard over once more and pull through two loops. You should have one loop left on your hook. You have just completed one double crochet.

Step 5: Finishing the Scallop Stitches

Repeat Step 4 to add four more double crochet stitches under the same V.

Step 6: Closing the Scallop

Skip the next V and insert your hook under the V after that. Wrap your yarn once over the hook and pull it through the V. Pull that loop through the loop on your hook, completing a slip stitch.

Step 7: Repeating Scallops

Repeat Steps 4, 5, and 6 to add scallops along the chain.

Step 8: Weaving in the Yarn

Leaving a short tail of about seven inches, cut your yarn free from the skein and use your hook to pull the yard tail through the loop on the hook. This will knot the last stitch. Use a yarn needle to weave the tail back through the stitches. Do this with the starting tail left at Step 1 as well.

Step 9: Finishing the Necklace

Adjust your necklace to center the scalloped section onto your Knitted Leather Chain. The stitches will slide and adjust easily in a sort of “scrunch and pull” motion along the chain. If necessary, trim any extra length off the ends of your Knitted Leather Chain. Once you have the crochet design in place, attach a SilverSilk Single Strand End Caps to each end of the Knitted Leather Chain. Open and close a jump ring to attach a lobster claw to one of the end caps. Attach a jump ring to the other end cap.

Conclusion:

We hope you have enjoyed this journey into crochet style! Many types of yarn and stitch variations are possible. This design also looks lovely on SilverSilk Pipe Chain.
