How to Make the Meteorain SilverSilk Necklace

This design feels like we caught a shooting star and made a piece of jewelry with it! Let’s create the Meteorian SilverSilk Necklace using SilverSilk Capture Chain. This design is not your typical necklace—there’s no clasp involved. Instead, we’re getting creative by stringing seed beads to create the clasp mechanism, where vibrant strands of Czech glass beads cascade though it (sort of like a meteor shower) giving the illusion of a multi-strand necklace when it's actually just wrapped around. Read on to learn how to make this amazing design!

Meteorain SilverSilk Necklace, Written Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1: Preparing your Capture Chain

Measure and cut two equal length pieces of capture chain. The necklace will be worn such that each side of the length will reach from just below the collar bone, wrap around the back of the neck to a point against the neck, just above the shoulder. To help determine the length, you can measure with a tape measure. Otherwise, a safe estimate would be to cut each length between 16- to 18-inches. Think about staggering the two different lengths if you want some extra drama in your design.

Step 2: Preparing the Ends of your Capture Chain using SilverSilk Findings

Using chain nose pliers, remove any loose knits from the ends of your Capture Chain. Secure one end of each length of Capture Chain using a SilverSilk Single-strand End Cap. Use a pair of wide nose Wubbers pliers coated in Tool Magic to secure the End Caps.

Step 3: Bringing the Other Raw Ends Together

Align each of the raw ends of your Capture Chain inside a Double-strand End Cap. Gently close the End Cap using your wide nose pliers. This side of the necklace will be for our pendant embellishment and the area where your necklace is clasped. Keep reading to find out how!

Step 4: Creating a Seed-Beaded Loop on the Double-strand End Cap

String an 8in-length of beading wire through the Double-strand End Cap. String one fire polish bead over both ends of the beading wire, then String 15, size 8/0 seed beads onto each wire.

Step 5: Finishing the Seed Beaded Loop and Embellishing

String another fire polish bead and a crimp tube onto both wires. Using your crimping pliers, form a crimp over both wires. You’ll notice some of your Czech glass beads can’t fit two wires, so what I did was trim one wire off and left the other strand of beading wire in place to string my embellishment beads.

Step 6: Stringing a Decorative Design and Finishing the Strand

String a small pattern of fire polish beads, each spaced with an 8/0 seed bead. Finish with the fire polish pendant and seed bead at the very end, then form a crimp right next to the seed bead. Trim any extra beading wire off for a clean finish.

Optional design idea: Needing some extra swing in your necklace? Try using a head pin to attach the large, fire polish pendant instead of stringing it your design. Form a simple loop with your head pin, then string the beading wire through it and back through the crimp. Form the crimp and trim the tail of beading wire close to it.

Step 7: Preparing the Beading Wire for the Longer, Decorative Strands of the Necklace Design

String a crimp tube onto a 12-14in-length of beading wire and feed the end through one of the Single-strand End Caps. Bring the end back through the crimp tube and form a crimp. Trim the short tail of beading wire near the crimp.

Step 8: Stringing the Decorative Beaded Pattern of the Necklace Design

String a random pattern of fire polish beads, each spaced with a seed bead, along the length of the beading wire. End the strung design with a fire polish pendant but string an additional seed bead before the crimp tube so that the crimp won’t fall inside the hole of the pendant bead. Then, make a crimp and trim any extra wire off.

Optionally here, you could string the large bead onto a head pin and form a simple loop. Then just crimp your beading wire onto the head pin loop. This method allows for the pendant to move independently of the necklace rope, giving your design some extra swing.

Step 9:

Repeat Step 7 & 8 for the second strand to complete your design.

How to Wear It:

Start by placing the seed-beaded loop part of the necklace against your collar bone. Bring each of the strands of Capture Chain around your neck. Cross them at the back, then bring each of the long, beaded strands through the seed beaded loop created in Steps 4 and 5.

Conclusion:

When it comes to out-of-this-world fashion accessories, the Meteorain SilverSilk Necklace is your wish made on a shooting star come true. The concept and design are truly otherworldly and cosmic.
