How to Make Wire Feather Earrings with SilverSilk 3-Needle Chain
Today, I’m using components from the Jesse James Beads Magical Mystery Box to put together a stellar pair of earrings that use SilverSilk 3-Needle chain in the most unusual way! Create a feathery texture in minutes using just some wire and the chain. I'm thrilled to share a fantastic project in collaboration with one of my favorite companies, Jesse James Beads. Together, we've crafted a collection of knitted wire chains and explored their Magical Mystery Bead Boxes, focusing on this month's theme, Cirque.
Before we dive into the magic, let's gather our tools and materials:
Tools:
Cutters: Essential for cutting wires.
Round Nose (Wubbers Tools): Specifically used for making simple loops.
Chain Nose Pliers (Wubbers Tools): Ideal for handling chains.
Materials:
5ft • SilverSilk 3-needle Chain
2 • Earring wires
2 • Large hammertone rings
2 • 4mm Round faceted glass beads in blue
2 • 4mm Crystal rondelle spacers
2 • Large Jesse James Beads decorative beads (approx. 15mm)
24in • 26ga Craft wire in gold color
2 • Headpins
1. Trimming the Three-Needle Chain:
Start by cutting 10 lengths of the chain, approximately 2.5 to 3 inches each.
2. Wire Wrapping the Tassel:
Fold a 3-Needle length in half and use 26-gauge wire to wire-wrap the chain to a Hammer Tone Ring. Follow a pattern of one wrap on the ring, one wrap over the chain plus the ring, and one wrap back on the ring. Repeat this pattern, creating a tassel with 10 strands on each ring. End each side with five coils of just the wire by itself and trim the excess wire.
3. Shaping the Tassel:
Decide on the desired shape for your tassel. This could be half a sphere, triangle-shaped, random lengths, and trim the chain accordingly with either your cutters or a pair of scissors.
4. Creating the Beaded Bobble:
Thread a crystal, rhinestone spacer, and a decorative bead onto a headpin. Form a loop at the top of the headpin using your round nose pliers. Attach the beaded bobble to the top of the Hammer Tone Ring and the earring wire at the same time to finish the earring. Make a second earring to complete the set.
Conclusion:
This project was not only enjoyable but also a fantastic collaboration with Jesse James Beads. The use of 3-needle SilverSilk chain adds a unique touch to these stylish earrings.
